Frequently Asked Questions
How do i become a member?
There has been confusion on how to become an official VSAUW member. You do not need to request to become a member via Huskylink. There's no "official" sign up but instead, all you need to do is attend our events and meetings.
How do memberships work during covid/remote learning?
Given how everything is offered remotely this year, VSAUW will not be requiring paid membership cards. In the past, we’ve required a fee for a membership card that included a t-shirt and other benefits, but that will be placed on hold until this year ends.
Do I need to be Vietnamese/speak Vietnamese to be in VSA?
No! VSA is for anyone who is interested in learning about, supporting, serving, and connecting with the Vietnamese community. Many of our members cannot speak Vietnamese or are not Vietnamese. We love them all! Our meetings are designed to be inclusive for everybody, everyone is welcome!
Are the meetings at the same time & place?
No! Due to room availability, our meeting times and places vary for every meeting. Our general meetings are every two weeks. Make sure to like VSAUW and join the VSAUW Forum on Facebook, and follow VSAUW on Instagram for updates on all upcoming events.
Do I need to purchase a membership to be a member of VSA/attend meetings?
No! Purchasing a membership is not required. Paying for membership is only necessary if you would like to receive the official merch for this year, receive discounts from certain restaurants, discounts on VSA events, and more! We sell our memberships during tabling in Red Square and during meetings!
How do i get more involved?
Every quarter, VSAUW has several volunteering opportunities for the Vietnamese community within the Greater Seattle Area! Stay up to date on these opportunities by coming to our meetings, subscribing to our emails, and liking VSAUW/VSAUW Forum on Facebook! Other ways to get involved are the VSAUW dance team or applying as an officer this upcoming spring quarter!
I couldn't come to the last meeting, can I come to the next one?
Yes! We don't require members to be at every meeting. You are welcome to any and all events that you can attend.
Am I allowed to come to a meeting late/leave early?
Yes! We understand our meetings don't always align perfectly with your schedules. While we'd love to have you for the whole meeting, come or go when you need to.
What is an ace family and how do i join?
ACE or Anh Chi Em (Older Brother, Older Sister, Younger Sibling) is a program VSAUW implemented as a way to connect old and new members together to foster connections in a smaller scale. Each member is placed within a one of the several families in VSAUW. This year’s theme is boba! We use ACE families in all of our group games and keep track of the points. You can earn points through games at our meetings, team bonding, and participating in volunteer events through VSA.
If you aren’t already placed in a family, come to our meetings, find an officer, and we will give you one!
Where do the vsauw proceeds go to?
VSAUW uses our proceeds in a number of ways! Our funds go to the costs of meetings, treats for our members, and our Collective Philanthropy Project (CCP) of the year, which is Messengers of Love— a charity that is dedicated to bringing help, love and happiness to the orphans and impoverished children of Vietnam.
